So Exeter is to have a critical mass, for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll explain.
Critical Mass is a monthly cycling event held in over 300 cites around the globe. Critical Mass was set up in 1992 in San Francisco, although the first mass cycle meets took part in Stockholm in the early 1970's. The London monthly rides started in April 1994 .Critical Mass is sometimes called an "organized coincidence", with no leadership ,the routes of the rides are decided spontaneously by whoever is attending. The aims of critical mass are as many as there are participants some include, meeting like minded cyclists, to cycle safely in a large group, to highlight the need of cycle routes within a city and to highlight cycling as a sustainable alternative transport. You don't need a bike to join in it can be any human powered transport be it skates, a skateboard or a scooter!
I personally can't wait having been a cyclist since I was about 4 but find some of the roads terrifying, not to mention some of the car drivers and wish there where more cycle routes especially in the countryside. I've been on a few of the London ones and had much fun, I'm hoping that I'll meet some like minded folks who want to meet regularly.
The Exeter critical mass is on 10th March 2012 starting at the Cathedral at noon ending who knows where!
